Food Mashup: Fiesta Pizza

If you’ve been keeping up with my recipes, you’re no stranger to my pizza mashups (see the others HERE & HERE). This was actually one of the first pizza mashups I ever tried (before I started this blog), and it’s finally made its blog debut: Chicken Enchilada Pizza. Pizza is great. Mexican food is my weakness. It’s only natural to combine them, right?

Concrete Jungle

I came to LA for fashion, so it only seemed appropriate to check out the LA Fashion District.  It was like another world ready to be explored (Santee Alley, for starters). Streets on streets of fabrics & notions & clothes. And excellent people watching.  All smack dab in the middle of Downtown LA.

As usual, my look was all about the layers. I knew we’d be spending time in the sun so a linen tank & shorts were a safe bet, but just in case the weather cooled down later (I have learned the hard way that it can get pretty chilly in the evenings), a plaid button-down around my waist was the finishing touch.  Welcome to the Concrete Jungle. Let’s keep exploring.

Crockpot Cookoff

My Crockpot has become one of my best friends in the last month. I’ve always been a big fan (and never been disappointed), but after a day of working/exploring/job searching/fighting LA traffic/insert whatever here…the last thing I want to do is cook. With this newfound reliance on my Crockpot, I was in dire need of some new recipes.

Crockpot Balsamic Chicken. Simple but full of flavor…my favorite combination. I decided to serve this in a bowl with rice and veggies. Couldn’t have turned out better.

The best part about Crockpot meals are the leftovers. I’m generally not a big fan of leftovers, but I swear if they come from the Crockpot they always taste equally as good if not better. (TIP: Switch it up by changing the veggie. I opted for broccoli the first time, and edamame with the leftovers.)

I’m still searching for more Crockpot recipes to try, so I’d love to know some of your favorites!

Plan A

Today marks one month since I left North Carolina. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that I’ve been in California for almost a month now. Everything is starting to feel like home.

This move has obviously got me thinking about my plan…for life…my career…etc. It’s why I came out here in the first place. Here’s a thought that’s been weighing on me and could be applied to so many areas:

“If you have a Plan B, you’ll need it.”

Think about it. Everyone has a Plan A. The dream. The ultimate goal. But it seems like too many people fall back and settle with Plan B. There are various reasons for that, but the one common denominator: they all had a Plan B. So don’t settle, and don’t have a Plan B. It’s not gonna be easy, but that’s what makes it worth it.

For me there’s never really been a Plan B, and my journey to reach Plan A has been full of tests & obstacles, but also some really amazing rewards & experiences. Plan A might be a little fuzzy, but I’m just working hard everyday to get closer, and as I do, things become a little clearer.

On a lighter note, I’ve also decided to apply this whole Plan A concept to my closet. Stick to what you really love, & get rid of the rest. Today’s look pretty much sums that up for me. Comfort (whatever the occasion) is #1 in my book.

Stay true to yourself & your style.

The Würst Post

What better way to celebrate America than with one of the most American foods around? HOT DOGS! Not to mention it’s summer, and, show of hands please, but who is hosting or attending some sort of cookout this weekend? That’s what I thought. And there will most likely be hot dogs on the grill, so it’s time to show off some amazing & delicious buns…hot dog buns.

A few days ago I lunched at the Dog Haus, and my mind was literally blown with the innumerable hot dog creations at this place. Seriously…take a look at their menu and get inspired. From bacon-wrapped to breakfast dogs…they’ve got their bases covered (like the Grand Slam or Little Leagure, for instance #punny). And if you like control, you can even build your own. I’ve already decided that The Cowboy is next on my list to try…unless I decide to make it myself first! But one of my favorite things: they use toasted Hawaiian rolls for the buns. Serious props to whoever came up with that.

So for all of you hosting a cookout this 4th of July weekend, add a few more adventurous toppings to your grocery list, and for those of you attending, bring some unexpected toppings and the host (& everyone else) will be thanking you.

PS – Today is also my baby bro’s birthday. He’s turning the big ole’ 22, so I have to give him a shoutout! Happy Birthday, Lukey!
